All of our checking customers get Free Checking. But if you meet certain requirements in any given month, you’ll be automatically upgraded to the high-yield Rewards Checking experience the following month.
Get your upgrade by just doing what you usually do
- Make 10 purchases with your Star One debit or credit card*
- Enroll at least one membership account (where you’re the primary member, in case you’re sharing) in eStatements and eNotices
- Keep a minimum of $300 in monthly Direct Deposit or $5,000 in deposit or loan balances
Rewards Checking members earn 3.51%APY[1] —the same as our Money Market Savings. You’ll also enjoy a refund of up to $20 per month in out-of-network ATM fees.
*Card purchases must post within the same month as authorized to qualify for Rewards Checking eligibility the next month.

First, you’ll need to be eligible as someone who lives, works, or attends school in our service area (see other ways you can be eligible). Second, we’ll need all the usual paperwork. We’ve laid out all the information for you.
Yes! If you attend school in Santa Clara County or one of the eight surrounding counties, you can open a no-fee checking account with Star One. We’ll even reimburse some of your ATM fees, so you can focus on more important things.
