Our Story

The Lockheed Missile Employees Federal Credit Union was chartered to serve employees of the new Lockheed Missiles and Space Division in Sunnyvale, California. The following January, 1,350 member accounts were transferred from the Lockheed Aircraft Employees Federal Credit Union in Burbank.

Over several years, new products and services were introduced including share draft (checking) accounts, credit and home equity lines, IRAs, certificate accounts, longer-term first mortgage loans, ATMs, Touchtone Teller service, and Visa credit cards.

The Credit Union celebrated its 25th anniversary and changed its name to LMSC Federal Credit Union.

Assets grew to $435 million, loans totaled $217 million and there were 43,153 members.

The Board of Directors changed the field of membership, allowing Star One to offer membership to Select Employee Groups (Corporate Partners) outside the Lockheed Martin community.

Star One Federal Credit Union became the new name while assets surpassed $1 billion.

Star One's website and secure Online Banking were launched.

The Credit Union became state-chartered and changed its name to Star One Credit Union. All individuals living, working and attending school in Santa Clara County were allowed to become members.

The De Anza Branch in Cupertino, California was opened.

Bill Pay service was introduced in Online Banking.

Star One celebrated its 50th anniversary while growing to be the largest credit union based in Santa Clara County, and the 17th largest in the nation, with more than 72,000 members worldwide. The Blossom Hill Branch was opened in San Jose, California.

The El Camino Branch in Palo Alto, California was opened. The Sunnyvale branch was relocated from 8th Avenue to Enterprise Way, and some employees moved to a new Administrative Building nearby.

The Stevens Creek Branch in San Jose, California was opened, becoming Star One's fifth branch in Santa Clara County.

The Mobile Banking App was launched giving members another secure and convenient way to view and manage Star One accounts.

The Big Basin Branch was opened in historic downtown Saratoga, California.

Star One membership grew to 100,000 members.

Star One opened the field of membership to include individuals living, regularly working, or attending school in Santa Clara, Alameda, Merced, Monterey, San Joaquin, San Mateo, San Benito, Santa Cruz, and Stanislaus Counties.

Zelle®, a person-to-person payment service, was launched in Mobile Banking.

Star One surpassed $10 billion in assets.

The El Camino Branch in Palo Alto was relocated to the San Antonio Branch in Los Altos, California, giving members another convenient and accessible branch location.

Star One launched its Virtual Branch, bringing convenience to members no matter where they reside.

Star One Credit Union is a full-service financial institution with assets exceeding $9.6 billion and more than 134,000 members.
