Avoid Common Scams

Stay safe from phishing: insights from our employees.

"Phishing" occurs when fraudsters contact you—pretending to be from Star One—and then ask you to provide your personal information.

Beware of fake websites when searching online.

Scammers create websites that look like those that you recognize, hoping to trick you into entering your user name and password.

Tips on keeping your accounts secure

  • Verify transactions on your accounts regularly
Report any discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Never share your passwords with anyone
We will never ask you for any password or one-time passcode (OTP). However, for an additional layer of protection, we will ask for your Secret Identifier when you call Star One Phone Representatives. You can set up your Secret Identifier inside Digital Banking.
  • Use long and complex passwords
Mixing uppercase and lowercase letters as well as symbols is strongly encouraged.
  • Don't use the same or similar passwords on multiple websites
Avoid using a range of similar passwords, such as smith1, smith2, etc. Keeping them unique helps prevent fraudsters from easily accessing all your accounts if one of them is ever compromised.
  • Change your Digital Banking password regularly
Log into Online Banking and select the "My Settings" link to do so.
