Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is there a fee imposed by Star One to process an online payment?
No, there is no fee charged by Star One to use this service.
  • How far in advance could I schedule a loan payment?
Loan payments can be scheduled in advance up to three future payments.
  • How can I schedule a loan payment to be taken out in the future?
Future payments can be scheduled by enrolling for the Auto Pay feature. To sign up, click on “Enroll Now” link on the main page and create a user name and password or enroll after making a one-time loan payment. Once automatic payments are scheduled, they will continue until canceled or a suspension date may be entered at set up.
  • Could a payment be cancelled once scheduled?
Yes, but only if cancellation is requested the same day payment was made prior to 3:00 pm PST.
  • What are the acceptable methods of payment to process an online payment?
At this time only a transfer from a savings or checking account at another financial institution is allowed.
  • Is there a fee imposed by Star One if there are insufficient funds to cover the payment transfer as requested?
    Yes, the fee is $15.00.
  • Could I payoff my loan using this channel?
No, payoff quotes are not available through this service. Please call us for assistance with a loan payoff.
  • Will my payment be posted the same day payment is made?
Yes, as long as payment request meets the required cutoff time of 3:00 pm PST.
  • Will using this service to make a payment affect the scheduled transfers previously set up for a loan?
No. A payment made using this service will not stop the previously scheduled transfer. Both payments will be applied and the loan due date will be advanced accordingly.
  • For payments made to a Visa, Personal Line of Credit or Home Equity Line of Credit account, would the excess payment amount (if applicable) be applied towards the next payment due date?
No. Any excess payment amount will be applied towards the principal balance. The next payment amount is not determined until the next billing statement is generated.
  • What if I want to apply a principal only payment to my loan?
For this type of transaction, please call us for assistance with a principal only payment.
  • How can I make an extra payment to be applied towards the principal balance?
This is allowed as long as the principal only payment is included with the regular payment. Any excess payment will be applied towards the principal balance. For example, if your mortgage payment is $2,674.62 and you want to pay $500.00 towards principal, enter a payment of $3,174.62 under “Other Amount.” The $500.00 will then be credited towards the principal balance.
  • What if I make a payment to the wrong account in error?
Please call us as soon as the error is discovered for assistance.
  • If my loan is delinquent, is the late fee required to satisfy the minimum payment amount?
This depends on the type of loan. For a real estate loan, the late fee is not required to satisfy the minimum payment due for that month; however, it will still be due. For a consumer loan (vehicle, Visa or personal loan), the late fee will be deducted from the minimum payment amount, which means a lesser amount will be applied towards the principal balance.

Account Transfers

Make immediate one-time transfers between your Star One accounts and loans inside Online Banking. Transfers are in real time except when holds on your accounts prevent funds from being available. If you are making a transfer outside of normal business hours, the transfer will be posted using the next business date. A transaction-results page will appear after the transfer is processed. We recommend that you print this page for your records.

Scheduled Transfers

Set up money transfers for a later date between your Star One accounts and loans in Online Banking. Initiate a one-time transfer or a series of transfers. Have an e-mail reminder sent to you when the transfer is complete, if desired.

To edit or delete a Scheduled Transfer, just click on the corresponding link under "Action" on the "Scheduled Transfers" page.

Cross-Member Transfers

To move money to other accounts at Star One, complete our "Cross Member Transfer" form in Online Banking.

Restrictions

Note on Federal Regulation D: "Reg D" limits the number of electronic transfers you may make from a savings account during a calendar month to six. This applies to Scheduled & Recurring Transfers set up in Online Banking, Mobile Banking, telephone transactions, and transactions requested through Secure Support. Loan payments, including payments to your Visa Credit Card, are not counted. There is no limit on the number of electronic transfers you may make from your checking account.

Use External Funds Transfers & Express Transfers service in Online Banking to move funds between your Star One Checking or Savings Accounts and your accounts at other financial institutions.

External Funds Transfers & Express Transfers can be found in the Move Money drop-down menu in Online Banking.

Start by specifying the account number and the ABA/Routing number for the Star One Checking or Savings Accounts and also for the external account where funds will be deposited or withdrawn.

We'll make a small trial deposit and then a trial withdrawal from each account, which you will then confirm to show that the accounts are yours. After you enter the amounts of the trial deposits. After you confirm the amounts of the trial deposits and withdrawals for each of your accounts, External Funds Transfer is activated and you can start moving money.

Confirmation e-mails are sent from fts-alert@umonitor.com.

How are External Funds Transfers & Express Transfers different from Bill Pay or Wire Transfers? In order to use it, you need to know the other institution's ABA/Routing number as well as your account number at that institution. As a result, you normally wouldn't use External Funds Transfers to pay bills. Instead, use it to move money to and from your accounts at other institutions, such as your brokerage account, another bank account, or a minor's account.

Important points:

  • In order to use External Funds Transfers, you must have an e-mail address in Online Banking's "User Options."
  • Be sure to check your other financial institution's transactions for the trial deposit and withdrawal amounts.
  • Activate your account by clicking on the "Manage Accounts" link on the left side of the External Funds Transfers interface, then select the "Activate" link.
  • Remember, you need to set up your Star One accounts, too.

Set up regular, automatic transfers to or from other financial institutions (weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly)—ideal for paying a loan or mortgage at another bank or credit union.

To start, submit the Recurring ACH Transfer Agreement in Online Banking (in the Online Forms drop-down menu) at least 10 days before you would like a new or existing payment or transfer to take place.

Alternatively, print and complete our printable form and mail or deliver it to us.

If your recurring payment or transfer date falls on a weekend or non-business day, your payment or transfer will occur on the business day prior to your requested transfer date.

Send money electronically to an account at another financial institution, either domestic or international.

All wire transfer requests are subject to Star One approval. Please call us to confirm the amount of your outgoing wire before completing the form in Online Banking (in the "Online Forms" drop-down menu). For your security we may use additional authentication methods to verify your identity.

Incoming International Wire Instructions

For incoming wire transfers that are not initiated in US dollars, Canadian Dollars, Euros and Great British Pounds, please call us for instructions.

Wires are posted throughout the day, Monday through Friday until 3:00 p.m. Any wires received at the end of day will be posted the next business day (Monday through Friday).

Several institutions may be involved in the transfer of foreign currency. These institutions often assess fees to cover the risk of currency market fluctuations. Locking in the foreign exchange currency rate guarantees the amount being sent, but it does not prevent other types of fees from being deducted from the amount of the wire transfer. Star One Credit Union is not able to control the assessment of fees. If a wire is sent in USD, the exchange rate will be unknown.

Star One Credit Union does not charge a fee for incoming wire transfers.

Domestic Wires are sent within the United States in US Dollars only. A US Bank is a bank that is incorporated within the United States, or subject to Federal and State Banking Regulations, whose deposits are insured by an Agency of the Federal Government.

To send a Domestic Wire, the following information is needed:

  • Receiving bank name, address and 9-digit ABA/Routing number and,
  • Recipient's name, address and account number.

The Outgoing Wire Transfer Request Form is located in Online Banking in the "Online Forms" drop-down menu.

Please note that the receiving institution may charge an additional fee for incoming wires.

Unlike many institutions, Star One does not add a markup to the standard fee for foreign-currency wire transfers.

We send funds in the receiving country's currency, unless the receiving account is specifically designated as a US Dollar account. This ensures compliance with regulatory requirements for remittance transfers.

Prior to your wire being sent, Star One provides disclosures to you, which include details such as the rate of conversion to the foreign currency. For requests received by fax, the disclosure will be sent to the email address on record at Star One.

A 30-minute waiting time applies before a wire transfer is sent, in case you wish to cancel.

Outgoing international wire transfers are processed through a US Correspondent Bank. The recipient bank is responsible for crediting the received funds. The actual amount received by the recipient may be reduced by charges imposed by the recipient bank. For more information about foreign exchange, call us.

It is important to note that if there are any errors on an international wire transfer sent in foreign currency, Star One may not be notified of any delay or problem for up to 10 business days.

To initiate an outgoing international wire transfer, please call us during regular business hours for information and instructions. Accuracy is very important when completing your request form. Incorrect or incomplete information can delay a wire transfer.

You have the right to cancel a remittance transfer and obtain a refund of all funds paid to us, including any fees. To cancel a remittance transfer, you must contact us within 30 minutes of payment for the transfer.

When you contact us, you must provide us with information to help us identify the transfer you wish to cancel, including the amount and location where the funds were sent. We will refund your money within three business days of your request to cancel a transfer as long as the funds have not already been picked up or deposited into a recipient's account.

You must contact us within 180 days of the date we promised to you that funds would be made available to the recipient. When you do, please tell us:

  • Your name and address or telephone number;
  • The error or problem with the transfer, and why you believe it is an error or problem;
  • The name of the person receiving the funds (recipient), and if you know, his or her telephone number or address;
  • The dollar amount of the transfer;
  • The confirmation code or number of the transaction.

We will determine whether an error occurred within 90 days after you contact us and we will correct any error as soon as possible. We will tell you the results within three business days after completing our investigation. If we decide that there was no error, we will send you a written explanation. You may ask for copies of any documents we used in our investigation.
